What Do I Feed My 18-24 Month Old?
Your toddler is turning into his own little person, and with that comes the likes and dislikes. Be sure to continue to offer a variety of foods from each food group. If your child outright refuses a food after three tries, give it a rest and retry in 1-2 weeks. Use this guide as a basic outline for the amounts and types of foods to offer daily.
- Age 18-24 months
- 4 or more breast feedings* per day
- OR 12-16 ounces whole cow’s milk, yogurt, cheese or cottage cheese
- Use sippy or straw cup only. Be sure to wean off of any remaining bottle feedings
- 4-8 ounces in a sippy cup
- No more than 4 ounces per day of juice per day
- ½ cup cooked cereal
- 1 cup cold cereal
- 1 slice bread
- ½ bagel
- 1 oz crackers
- ½ cup pasta or rice
- ½ to 1 cup of mashed or finely chopped per day
- Finely chopped or ground meats, poultry or fish
- Eggs
- Legumes
- Variety of safe finger and spoon foods

*Continue to breastfeed as long as you feel it is beneficial to your child
